“Recycle your pre-loved jewellery with us and together we'll make a positive impact on the planet”
DID YOU KNOW?
Gold can be recycled infinitely, but despite this, less than a third of the world's gold supply
is currently being recycled.
HOW IT WORKS
GOLD RECLAMATION
Firstly, a very strong magnet is passed over the materials chosen for recycling in order to remove any ferrous metal. The remaining gold is then weighed and melted in a crucible (usually made of graphite carbon or clay) along with Borax, which helps to reduce the melting-point temperature and remove impurities.
The mixture, known as the 'Melt', is regularly stirred to make sure it is even and thoroughly combined so that a good quality sample can be taken. Half of the sample goes off to the laboratory for testing and the other half is reserved for tracking and verification purposes.
The crucible of molten metal is poured into a mould and the Borax layer is removed, leaving us with a bar of reclaimed solid gold.
STEP 1
CALCULATE YOUR METAL'S VALUE
Use our online calculator below to get a rough estimate for trading your pre-loved jewellery for credit with us.
Not sure what metal your jewellery is made from? Don't worry, we'll test and appraise each item when it arrives with us. If your jewellery contains gemstones and you would like them unset and returned to you, we charge £15 per piece of jewellery plus delivery.
Please note, the final valuation of your credit may increase or decrease from our online calculator’s estimation due to the daily fluctuation of precious metal values. The credit you receive will be fixed according to Mastermelt on the day we receive your precious metals at our London studio.
STEP 2
REQUEST A FORM
If you would like to go ahead with your exchange, please email us at web@dowerandhall.com to request a Gold Exchange Form. This form should be completed and included inside your parcel to us.
STEP 3
POST YOUR jewellery
We strongly advise sending your jewellery to us with a recognised and reputable carrier, such as Royal Mail, with tracking and an appropriate level of insurance cover.
Before sending your jewellery, please:
- Remember to include your Gold Exchange Form with name and contact details inside the parcel. This is essential for us to be able to identify the jewellery we receive.
- Take photos of the metal you wish to exchange, including any hallmarks. This helps us to keep an accurate record of what we are expecting to arrive at our studio.
- Ensure your jewellery is packaged securely and not visible from the outside.
Please contact us if you are unsure or have any questions about posting your jewellery for exchange.
STEP 4
RECEIVE YOUR CREDIT
Within 2-5 working days of your package's arrival, our knowledgeable team will evaluate your metals and email you a credit in return.
If your metal lacks a hallmark, we may need to send it for x-ray testing to determine its value before any credit note is issued, which will take longer. We will let you know if this becomes necessary.
With your Dower & Hall credit now available for you to spend, you can add to your jewellery collection knowing that you have helped to reduce your environmental footprint.
